More of the 23 Things on a Treo

I went to the 23 Things blog at http://our23things.infopeople.org/ on the Treo. I can see the postings and the blog roll, so it works very well. Nice and clean.

Thing 2 -Blogger on mobile - you have to "claim" your phone which I didn't want to do because it would incur a cost, but information about blogging through Blogger on a mobile phone can be found at: http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=42448

Thing 18, Google docs and spreadsheets, does not work on a Treo. A message appeared that the browser must support javascript and I also got an error that the page was too large to display.

Thing 20, Youtube. The first page is a warning "Information: YouTube Mobile is a data intensive application. We highly recommend that you upgrade to an unlimited data plan with your mobile service provider to avoid additional charges." Searched for Kirtas (the robotic book scanner) and got "No results for 'kirtas'. Only a portion of YouTube videos are available on mobile at this time. We are working hard to bring you more!"

YouTube and "friends"

I'm getting really tired of this "friend" thing of Web 2.0. It's not all that friendly.

I got an invitation from YouTube to friend a 19 year old who appears to be into cars. Why me? He is also blasting me with emails to view each of his videos. In checking his profile it looks like he's annoyed a lot of people with his "spam" invitations. I can't figure out what brought him into my sphere of influence. I currently only have four videos on Youtube, none having anything to do with cars nor of interest to 19 year olds as far as I can tell. None have very many views. What's the point of inviting total strangers to view your videos? Do you get money for high hit rates?

Thing 20 - YouTube

After lunch I watched Karen Schneider's YouTube video on LOCKSS and it got me thinking, I have a video file on my PC. I had just received my digital camera as a birthday gift the day before a trip to Hayward to see the Kirtas book scanner. The camera has a movie mode. I took a little video of the book scanner in action. It wasn't until I got back that I realized that the camera also records sound, else I would have narrated the workings of the scanner.

I searched YouTube to see if anyone else had posted a video of a working Kirtas scanner. There was one video taken at SLA this year.

I just joined YouTube, went to the upload page, browsed to where the file was, filled in a title, description and tags and let it upload. Once uploaded YouTube provides the code which can be used to embed the video on blogs or websites.

On Blogger I started typing in "Compose" mode, then clicked on the Edit Html tab and pasted in the code provided by YouTube. Here is the result (not appearing yet, seems to take a lot of time for YouTube to process, or maybe there was a problem with the file, but regardless, it was easy to do) :
